We have all grown up with the Trolls. Come on, face it. You probably had a collection of those brightly colored hair raising little guys when you were younger. I did. These days there is a reemergence of the Troll market with films and TV shows and plenty of new and updated toys. There are, of course, plush Trolls to cuddle. And there are books and games. Talking Trolls, lunchboxes, backpacks, pillows, blankets, and play sets make up a big market for consumers. And there are swimsuits, dresses, and T-shirts for boys and girls.

The “Trolls” feature film was so popular last year that a sequel is scheduled for 2020. But we don’t have to wait that long to get more from those delightful fellows. Beginning on January 29 from DreamWorks, “Trolls: The Beat Goes On” on Netflix continues the fun with plenty of Troll and Bergen antics, featuring Queen Poppy (voiced by Amanda Leighton) and Branch (voiced by Skylar Astin).

The attention to detail in the animation is amazing and gives this 2D show more warmth. The textures in the scenes and specific features (grass between feet, etc.), plus the lush backgrounds make every scene jump out at the viewers. There are plenty of visual jokes to look for and the music adds an important element to the episodes. As writer Matthew Beans explained to me, “Music has created an identity for the show.”

The biggest pressure the team had when creating the series was maintaining the quality. And, having seen what the finished product is, they have done an excellent job. This is definitely a well-crafted and entertaining show for all ages, even though the target age is 3-10. While kids will enjoy watching the series, there is an added sophistication for adults.

“DreamWorks Trolls: The Beat Goes On” is a good family-friendly series that everyone will enjoy watching together. It brings back memories for adults wile creating new ones for kids. The Trolls are endearing and filled with plenty of antics and find themselves in situations that provide fun viewing for everyone.

Join Poppy, Branch, and all the Trolls and Bergens on Netflix beginning January 19.
