Red Bucket Equine Rescue Shares Their Journey of Rescuing Slaughter-Bound and Abused Horses

0

Founder Susan Peirce shares how the journey began in 2008 when she found a starving thoroughbred filly at a run-down and dilapidated stable that was on its way to the meat wagon. The barn manager felt no obligation to care for the animal, while Susan went to the local feed store and bought 50 pounds of carrots and a “Red Bucket.” It took her 6½ hours to catch the emaciated filly, but once she caught her, she never let go. She named her Harlow and made her a promise of a loving, forever home.

Ever since that day Red Bucket has been committed to providing a loving, safe environment to the slaughter-bound, abused, high-risk and unwanted horses. Their 13th Anniversary Ruby Red Gala fundraiser is quickly approaching on November 13, 2021.

In the wake of COVID and devastating weather events on the west coast, many have fallen on hard times and the Ranch the Horses Own is doing more and in greater need of support than ever.
